When someone is travelling ... Music is known to take you around the world. But composers have also travelled long distances to teach elsewhere, to gain new impressions, to present themselves - or even to become the director of a conservatory on another continent: The magnificent Cello Concerto is one of the most famous and popular pieces from Antonín Dvořák's years in the USA, although wistful memories of his Bohemian homeland are also inscribed in this score. And the French master cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras was also born in America, more precisely in Montréal, Canada. Symphony No. 4 in E minor op. 98 is Johannes Brahms' last symphony and was premiered in Meiningen on 25 October 1885. Today, it is one of his most popular orchestral works. Little is known about the composition process, but Brahms' diary shows that the first two movements were composed in 1884 and the last two in 1885, with the finale being composed first. That's the way to live! Especially when such a splendid orchestra as the BBC Philharmonic accepts Julian Rachlin's invitation.
Extasy
The HERBSTGOLD - Festival 2025 invites you to experience music in its deepest and most moving form. Under the motto “Extasy”, we dedicate ourselves to those moments in which music takes us beyond the everyday - into a state of intense devotion in which sounds, emotions and interpretation merge into an inseparable unity.
Ecstasy in music means the complete penetration of a work - for the performers as well as for the audience. These are the moments when a note resonates and time seems to stand still for a moment. When passion, virtuosity and expressiveness build a bridge between art and soul.
Experience renowned artists, extraordinary programs and inspiring encounters in the special ambience of Esterházy Palace. Let yourself be carried away by the power of music - to a festival that is entirely dedicated to the search for the sublime
