Pablo Trincia – The Wrong Man
From the written page to the stage, from reporting to live performance: Pablo Trincia, one of the most talented storytellers of our time, brings “The Wrong Man – A Live Investigation” to the theatre, produced and distributed by Gianluca Bonanno and Vincenzo Berti for Ventidieci and Stefano Francioni Produzioni. It is a shocking account of a miscarriage of justice that destroyed the lives of several people. The tour, which will begin in December 2025, will visit the main theatres across Italy, taking audiences deep into a dark story and an uncomfortable truth.
At the heart of the show, written by Trincia himself together with Debora Campanella, is the chilling story of Ezzeddine Sebai, a Tunisian serial killer who, in 2006, confessed from prison to fourteen murders of elderly women committed in southern Italy in the mid-1990s. The revelation called dozens of already concluded trials and final judgments into question: for some of those crimes, innocent people were convicted, and they have been fighting for years to prove that they had nothing to do with the events.
“I will bring to the theatre a terrible case of judicial news,” explains Trincia, “a story full of investigative errors that had devastating consequences for entire families already weakened by poverty and deprivation. The idea is to draw the audience into the story, to make them experience a journey through the shadows of the Italian justice system’s failures, so that they leave the theatre with their heads full of questions and their hearts filled with indignation.”
Through video, original testimonies, court documents and archival footage, “The Wrong Man” tells a true and disturbing story, a journalistic investigation that becomes a live performance and transforms into an immersive experience capable of shaking consciences and bringing an uncomfortable truth back into the spotlight. This project represents a turning point in the way current affairs and crime stories are told: a new, courageous and profoundly human approach.
“I had dreamed for a long time of telling a story in the theatres of our country,” Trincia concludes. “Now I finally have the opportunity to do it. I love the stage, the anticipation, the energy, the idea of being among people, hearing them breathe as they listen to a story that burns. For me, theatre marks the beginning of a new professional journey and a new phase of my life.”
