Rameau’s testament

At nearly 80 years of age, Jean-Philippe Rameau put all his energy into one last tragédie lyrique, intended for the celebrations marking the end of the Seven Years’ War, and died without ever hearing his musical testament. What a masterpiece he left behind! Constant invention, orchestral audacity, powerful drama: with Les Boréades, Rameau seems to draw his inspiration from a completely new source.

Reinoud van Mechelen has already triumphed as Prince Abaris. At the head of his ensemble A nocte temporis and an exciting cast, he reprises this magnificent role for this first performance in Beaune.
