A home game for the Slavic soul: Piotr Beczała, adored by audiences from the Vienna State Opera to the New York Met, combines the deeply expressive song repertoire of his compatriot Mieczysław Karłowicz, little known outside his motherland Poland, with great romantic songs by Antonin Dvořak, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Sergei Rachmaninov. Some of these pieces seem tailor-made for the opera stage, on which Beczała has celebrated great success for decades and to which he pays homage in three arias from Tchaikovsky’s «Eugene Onegin», Dvořak’s «Rusalka» and Stanisław Moniuszko’s ≪Straszny Dwor≫. The celebrated French accompanist Sarah Tysman will be his partner at the piano for the first time in Grafenegg.
